The movie actress Susan Hayward, known for her film portrayals of women based on true stories, died at age 57.
Notable films
She won a Best Actress Award for her role as a prisoner in the 1958 film, I Want to Live! She received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her performance in the musical drama With a Song in My Heart.
Personal life
She married fellow actor Jess Barker from 1944 to 1954, and the couple had twin sons in 1945.
After their turbulent marriage ended, she remarried the successful Georgia rancher and businessman Floyd Eaton Chalkley, with whom she had a “happy marriage”. They resided on a farm near Carrollton, Georgia.
Cause of death
Hayward suffered a seizure in April 1973, her doctor found the underlying cause to be a lung tumor that had metastasized.
On March 14, 1975, the actress suffered a fatal seizure in her Beverly Hills home at the age of 57.
